Origin Chili Crisp Marinated Cheese

Inspired by the viral rise of Chinese-style chili crisp, this fusion dish merges East Asian heat with Mediterranean-style marinated cheese, creating a new crowd-pleasing snack perfect for any gathering.

What I Love About This Recipe

It’s wildly flavorful with minimal effort. The chili crisp infuses the cheese with heat, umami, and crunch — making it the ultimate party bite or lazy snack with crackers or crusty bread.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz (225g) firm cheese (feta, paneer, halloumi, or mozzarella cubes)

  • ¼ cup chili crisp (store-bought or homemade)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice

  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional for extra umami)

  • Fresh herbs (like parsley, cilantro, or green onion), chopped

  • Salt, to taste (if needed)

Directions

  • Cut cheese into bite-sized cubes and place in a jar or shallow container.
  • In a bowl, mix chili crisp, olive oil, garlic, vinegar or lemon juice, and soy sauce if using. Stir in herbs.
  • Pour the marinade over the cheese cubes, making sure they’re well coated.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight, to let the flavors soak in.
  • Bring to room temperature before serving. Enjoy with crusty bread, crackers, or as a salad topping.

Notes

  • Feta adds a salty tang, while paneer or mozzarella offers a milder base.
  • Use extra marinade as a drizzle over roasted veggies or noodles.
  • Adjust heat level by using more or less chili crisp.
