Blueberry Colada

1 Min Read

The Blueberry Colada is a vibrant, tropical-inspired cocktail that pairs the creamy texture of coconut milk with the bright, tangy sweetness of pineapple juice and fresh blueberries. This “hybrid” tiki drink balances a whisper of blueberry flavor with the tropical notes of coconut rum and the booziness of light rum. It is a visually striking purple drink that is perfect for summer celebrations or weekend relaxation.

The unique flavor profile is achieved through the use of a homemade Blueberry Lime Syrup, which provides a natural and fresh base without relying on unnecessary additives. The recipe is designed to be quick and easy, requiring only a few minutes of preparation time to shake the ingredients with ice and strain them into a chilled glass.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz light coconut milk

  • 2 oz Blueberry Lime Syrup (recipe below)

  • 2 oz coconut rum

  • 2 oz light rum

  • 2 oz pineapple juice

  • Blueberry Lime Syrup Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • 1 tsp lime zest

Directions

  • Prepare Syrup: Boil blueberries, lime juice, and zest in a small saucepan. Once berries burst, mash them with a spoon, strain out the solids, and reserve the juice.
  • Combine: Fill two narrow highball glasses with crushed ice.
  • Shake: Add all cocktail ingredients to a shaker with ice; shake for 3–5 seconds until chilled.
  • Serve: Strain the mixture into the prepared glasses. Garnish with blueberries, mint, and dried lime slices if desired.

Notes

  • Creaminess: Use full-fat coconut milk or half-and-half for a creamier consistency.
  • Storage: The syrup can be stored in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for at least one to two weeks.
  • Non-Alcoholic Option: Try substituting coconut water for the rum to maintain the coconut flavor.
